Highlights & notes

The highlight is the one underlying object in TruNaut. It becomes a note when you attach one, and a chat once a conversation exists — a passage is never more than one of these at a time.

Freeform notes on any passage, or convert a note straight into a chat

AI conversations

Tap a highlight to open a full-screen chat about that exact passage. Each highlight owns its own conversation, stored on device, so you can leave for weeks and pick up exactly where you stopped.

Choose your provider — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including a local model with no API key

Conversations become reusable knowledge — but only the knowledge you keep. Nothing reaches your vault until you say so.

Generate atomic notes or flashcards from a highlight, its note, and its conversation
Every insight lands in a review sheet first — edit or discard before anything is saved
Written incrementally: new ideas from later conversations are captured without re-billing already-distilled passages
Auto-synced as Markdown to iCloud Drive — plain Markdown, Anki, or Spaced Repetition format, drop-in ready for Obsidian
Lighter models handle distillation by default; your chat model is reserved for conversation
